Architecture firm Society Particular has completed a rooftop extension in Qingdao, China dubbed the Skybowl. It is an extension of the Hisense Plaza mall and is comprised of a glass hall and an amphitheater-style terrace. The studio was tapped to create the glass VIP lounge for the mall and instead proposed a different idea to form an accessible events space, stage, and terrace.
The studio shares with Dezeen, "Traditionally closed off and focused inward, the mall's design previously limited engagement with the city's beautiful bay views and temperate climate. Our primary objective was to create an inclusive space where people from all walks of life could appreciate the stunning views, Therefore, we had to devise a solution that was both time and cost-efficient, yet compelling enough to sway our client's original request."
