The 1st Edition of the Léi Zǔ silk shoe collection brings a whole new meaning to the word "delicate." Taking inspiration from the Chinese empress who gets credit for the discovery of silk and the invention of the silk loom, Nicole Goymann and Christoph John created an intricate footwear line. As a material for making clothes or shoes, silk is typically woven into a fabric, but in this case, the Léi Zǔ shoes get their fine form from single strands of raw silk filaments, which are held together by their own natural glues that harden in contact with air.
To make the shoes even more fragile, the soles are crafted from mulberry paper and supported by a clear, acrylic heel. These unique shoes were recently on display as part of Milan Design Week.
