Dwindling Porcelain Pitchers

The Shrinking Jug by Dave Hakkens Continues to Diminish in Size

The Shrinking Jug project is a fun experiment revolving around the fact that porcelain shrinks when it is baked. To illustrate this fact, Eindhoven-based designer Dave Hakkens decided to create a series of ceramic pitchers that would continue to dwindle in size with every new one. He achieved this feat by creating a new Shrinking Jug out of the one before it.

Originally fashioned out of an eclectic range of materials such as a plastic garbage bag, packaging foam, latex glove and nylon yarn, the resulting pitchers are full of texture. Nevertheless, with each new Shrinking Jug, the details are diminished just like the size. Ending up with a set of 13, each Shrinking Jug ranges between 5000 milliliters to 10 milliliters.
