A Space Designs the New Shou Sugi Ban Collection

Design studio A Space introduces its Shou Sugi Ban Collection, which is made with inspiration from the work of Isamu Noguchi. The sculptor's work of the Sculptor and the Ashtray project was the main influence as it explores two opposing concepts. The first of the range is a hand-crafted look with nin plaster models that inspire the collection -- the second was mass produced.

The Shou Sugi Ban Collection is made up of nine wooden bowls with a sculptural look -- each one in an edition of ten. All of the bowls are made traditionally using recycled Lebanese cedar before it is carved by hand. The artist's influence continues with the use of positive and negative space throughout the design.
