Photographer Caleb Cole created these self portrait dolls that have an unusual resemblance to himself. He added mutton-chop sideburns, a bald crown and thicker eyebrows to the flea market dolls to make them look more like him.
There's a baby doll crying that he added his features to and a soft-bodied one with an open mouth that looks like a more unimpressed and grouchy version. The artist began this collection by altering a plush Tintin doll he found that already resembled him. This inspired him to continue the series by using all kinds of old dolls. He felt the dolls spoke to some of his own concerns: "identity, relationships and fitting in, loneliness and isolation, hidden or thwarted desires, failure, mortality."
As sad as his connection to the self portrait dolls were, they serve as a creative and unique representation of his self-reflection. They're strangely cute too!
