The Nemeau Seafood Shop Mimics the Experience of Being Undersea

Seafood stores are hardly ever designed as spaces that inspire beauty, but the Némeau Seafood Shop is a rare exception.

When Jean de Lessard was put to the task of coming up with a concept for the space, the interior designer sought inspiration from the literary sci-fi classic 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.' As a result, the interior of the Canadian fish market mimics the movement of water and light under the sea with shapes and linear detailing.

Consumers are invited to explore the shop's range of fish and shellfish products with precious open glass display cases that resemble icebergs. To ensure peak freshness, these cases can be filled with water. As these are spaced throughout the shop and angled in particular ways, this encourages meandering throughout the interior of the seafood store.
