Milan's derelict railyards have become a scourge on an otherwise beautiful city, but international firm MAD Architects' recent project proposal, entitled Scali Milano, promises to rejuvenate that area of the city. Scali Milano, which is being headed up by MAD in collaboration with four other international firms (viz. Stefano Boeri Architetti, Mecanoo, MIRALLES TAGLIABUE EMBT, and Cino Zucchi Architetti,) would rebuild the Milan railyards with an eye on current and future community building by turning the area into a large-scale park.
Railway parks have become something of an urban planning darling in recent years. Manhattan's acclaimed High Line was built on a former rail track, and Toronto's proposed Rail Deck Park would be built on top of a currently used railway corridor in the city's downtown core.
