Brooklyn-based designer and health educator Sara Krugman collaborated with Eric Forman to create her latest project entitled ‘Gio.’ The Gio is a stylish one-handed blood glucose meter that attempts to make managing diabetes a little easier. Using pre-existing technologies like the meter, lancet device and lancet/strip drum, Krugman has created a portable attractive pocket-size tester that can be used quickly and easily.
Looking like nothing more than a gorgeously designed office accessory, the Gio is equipped with a dual-sided screen, which allows the tester to use whichever hand they prefer. The lancet is discharged according to finger pressure, and testing times take only 7 seconds. The Gio is also compatible with external devices via Bluetooth.
The Gio garnered Sara Krugman some attention at the Diabetes Mine 2011 Design Challenge, and possible marketing of the device is in the works. Keep an eye out for this beautiful and functional health-savvy sidekick.
