Food Waste Pasta Packaging

These Pasta Boxes are Made from Salvaged Food Waste

The UK supermarket Waitrose is set to begin selling two new pasta products in boxes made from salvaged food waste. While many supermarkets are looking for ways to increase the consumption of leftover food, Waitrose has found another use for food scraps.

As of Monday, August 1st, Waitrose will begin selling two types of gluten-free fusilli pasta in eco-friendly boxes. Both of the pastas are made from green peas and red lentils for a gluten-free alternative to wheat. The peas and pulses that do not make the grade during the production process are then saved and used to form part of the packaging instead of being thrown away.

By using salvaged food waste to create eco-friendly packaging, Waitrose demonstrates a new way that supermarkets can offer consumers more sustainable options.
