Secretive Safety Apps

Vodafone's Red Light App Disguises as a Mirror and Flashlight

In an attempt to cut down on the amount of women who feel threatened inside or outside of their own homes, Vodafone created a unique safety app.

Without knowing the true purpose of the app, it would seem that Red Light is only useful as an ordinary flashlight. However, if a woman finds herself in a situation where she feels in danger, she is able to shake her mobile device. This action will automatically send a pre-programmed text message to three trusted contacts, along with the woman's exact location.

In order to keep women feeling safe, spread the app's capabilities to other victims and also prevent abusers from finding its secrets, Vodafone launched another life-saving update to the app that introduced a mirror that worked in the same way as the flashlight.
