Royal Nation is a newly launched kid's clothing brand offering gender-inclusive premium athleisure wear and outerwear. In addition, the label aims to improve the representation of Black culture in the world of kid's fashion via the use of comic book-like narratives and animations.
Superhero-style characters are often used to accompany kids' clothing campaigns. But Royal Nation's founder, Lauren Hayes, has found that these characters have long lacked representation of minority groups. So, for Royal Nation, Hayes set out to create promotional characters that hail from "from different walks of life."
"I didn’t want every Black child’s experience to be represented in a monolithic way because we’re incredibly diverse," explained Hayes in a recent interview with Essence.
