Upside-Down Lighting

Benjamin Parton's Rose Lamp Boasts Victorian Home Details

Unless you are a lover of Victorian homes and versed in all of their detailing, you probably won't quite get the true quirkiness of the Rose Lamp. For those of you who are familiar with the makeup of such homes, you will be able to note that the base of the Rose Lamp is actually modeled after the molding often found on Victorian ceilings. Once you realize this, the scene in which this peculiar light fixture is placed will suddenly flip in your head, making it appear as if it has somehow been secured upside down, untouched by the force of gravity.

Designed by Benjamin Parton for a Royal College of Art project, the Rose Lamp's body even looks rather loose, like it is hanging off a ceiling.
