In order to accommodate its growing population, Stockholm has put forth a proposal to connect the city via skywalks that would allow residents to walk from roof to roof. With limited space left on the ground, it seems that creating new streets in the sky may be a viable solution for the dense urban environment.
The proposed design was put forth by architect Anders Berensson who has devised a unique way to connect the city's skyscrapers. Instead of simply connecting one building to another, Berensson is proposing that the walkways be use to create a network of criss-crossing pathways that would strech from roof to roof. Each roof would then be converted into a public park to maximize space and natural light.
While the proposal has yet to be approved, the design demonstrates one means of adapting existing city infrastructure to accommodate urban growth.
