Bendable Wood Seating

JC Karich's Rombo Chair is Made with Just Wood and Polymer

At a first glance, the Rombo Chair by J.C. Karich might seem quite static and plain, with the exception of the lattice patterning on the chair's backrest and seat. However, the pattern does more than add an interesting aesthetic detail to the chair -- it is also integral to the chair's functionality.

Where pliancy is required on the back and seat, polymer fills in the gaps between triangular and diamond-shaped pieces of plywood to allow bending when pressure is applied. This allows the seat and backrest to conform to the body and seating position.

Rombo is constructed solely of ash plywood and polymer joints. This combination takes the best of both materials, providing structure, flexibility and comfort without the need for extraneous materials or fasteners. Photo Credits: designboom, karich.cl
