Robotic Soup Chefs

These Robot Chefs from China Prepare Ramen Noodle Bowls in 90 Seconds

Daming Road in China's Hongkou District is now home to Toyako Robot Ramen, a new restaurant that serves ramen soup prepared by a pair of robot chefs.

At Toyako Robot Ramen, it takes exactly 90 seconds for the robots to boil the noodles, pour the soup and add the necessary garnishes. The bots, named 'Koya' and 'Kona' were purchased for about $154,000, specialize in the preparation of beef dishes. The high cost of the robots is equivalent to the pay two human chefs would receive over the course of six years, which explains the high price of the soup served at this eatery. Despite this, Liu Jin notes: "You don’t get any problems with robots. They’ll never ask for leave and they won’t get sick."

While it is twice as costly to get a noodle soup from this restaurant in comparison to other establishments nearby, the unique experience certainly provides dinner and a show.
