The Goatote reusable bag rental program is being tested at CVS Pharmacy and Target locations in New Jersey as part of a shift away from single-use plastic bags. The program makes use of a technology platform from 99Bridges, which works by having shoppers download the app and scan the QR code to rent a bag rather than needing to purchase their own. The program comes at an important time when single-use plastic bag bans are continuing to come into effect as a way to combat the global plastic waste crisis.
