A new red housing block has been erected in Tulum, Mexico. The complex is designed by the Ciudad Cuauhtémoc-based studio Coyote Arquitectura.
Named Tulix, this housing project adds nearly 40 residential units to Tulum. The residencies are arranged in two parallel lines, with an axial alley in between two parallel lines, with an axial alley in between. Throughout the design of the red housing block, which features a minimal and monolithic aesthetic with subtle accents, Coyote Arquitectura emphasized efficiency and comfort. The exterior draws attention because of its reddish plaster finish which is known as 'chukum.' The units feature windows and folding glass doors that open onto patios and the community alley.
Coyote Arquitectura sought to produce a contrast between the red housing block and the surrounding rocky jungle terrain
