In an effort to help consumers feel safer while traveling, United will be offering rapid COVID tests to passengers boarding planes.
The pilot program is offered on flights from San Francisco International Airport to Hawaii, and can offer results within 15 minutes. While consumers are expected to cover their own costs for this test, those that test negative are able to bypass Hawaii's mandatory 14-day quarantine period. However, the catch is that this test costs $250 USD per passenger, with United reporting that this price is expected to drop once flights resume as normal.
Passengers that test positive for COVID-19 will be unable to board the flight. The program will be available from October 5th.
