Punirunes seamlessly combines a virtual pet's companionship with the soothing, sensory delight of squishy, tactile play, creating an engaging and comforting experience for users. These digital pets are housed within a portable component with a full-color, backlit LCD screen, and a finger-sized hole that can be used to interact with the pet within. There are 55 characters, plus rare characters, to collect and feed, play games with, clean, customize and nurture.
Punirunes were first brought to market in 2021 by Japanese toy company Takara Tomy and in 2024, Spin Master will expand distribution to more markets interested in anime culture globally. This toy aligns with The Toy Association naming AniMania as a phenomenon to watch in 2024.
