The Prospera Island Project by Zaha Hadid Architects turns luxury architecture into environmentally-friendly living. The Roatan Prospera Residences project is set on the Caribbean Island of Roatan, off the coast of Honduras. The goal is to curate a population that can "prosper socially and ecologically" in 15,000 individual, personalized "voxel" units.
Engineering techniques that harmonize with the local ecosystem will be used to prioritize sustainability. Using timber from certified Honduran forests, the Residences will be erected to keep the construction materials native to the region. In addition, individual units will be assembled off-site to reduce the island's carbon footprint and protect wildlife diversity.
Fashioned in a modular, expanding framework, the Roatan Prospera Residences will feature rounded balconies and terraces, complete with traditional palapa roofs.
