Project Pontis is a new Samsung initiative designed to make televisions more accessible to people with physical disabilities. According to the tech conglomerate, the technology wants to enable "users with physical limitations to change channels and adjust sound volume with their brains." The project was launched in partnership with the Center of Neuroprosthetics of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
The current Project Pontis prototype functions using eye tracking to determine when a user has selected a particular movie. This version is an early step for Project Pontis but Samsung hopes that the system can go further and rely on brain signals so users who aren't able to control their eyes or other muscles can reliably control their television.
