Young women today are bombarded with images of perfection and it's no wonder that many (if not most) have body perception issues. Tragically, some of these young girls (mostly teens) are so desperate to attain their ideal body weight, they will resort to desperate measures to try to reach their goals. These girls often end up developing anorexia. The Internet is a common place for these girls to turn to find other young women with similar struggles. What is waiting for them is alarming. The number of pro-anorexia websites is on the rise. These are sites where these young girls congregate with like-minded women. Anorexia is actually promoted as a lifestyle choice on these websites and other girls who are not anorexic (yet) are encouraged to join and adopt the lifestyle as well. Eating disorders are actually promoted as a way of life and are not recognized as a serious, life-threatening illness.
