The Portal do Sul art series is made up of sculptures that can be likened to goal posts. This is particularly appropriate considering that it is based in Brazil, the home of the 2014 World Cup. Yet the structures are inspired by gates and portals that symbolize Brazil's rapid economic growth.
According to Psfk, the Portal do Sul "installation spans a hundred hectares of mountainous terrain in the Pinga Rio Valley, located near Sao Paulo." It was created by Pasha Radetzki, an artist based in New York City. Commissioned by Fazenda Catuçaba Art Residency, it was dubbed the 'chainsaw project' since it relied heavily on the use of local chainsaw cutting skills to reclaim or recycle timber.
Portal do Sul is a finalist in the Landscape Category of the 2014 CODAawards.
