Child-Safe 3D Pens

The Polyes Q1 is the First Child-Safe 3D Sketching Pen

The Polyes Q1 is a 3D pen, developed by the start-up company Future Make 3D, that has a number of special safety features that aim to make the product safe and fun for everyone to use. Even children can use the pen to safely create 3D plastic shapes and sculptures. The pen is cordless and charged via USB. Aside from standard inks, it also comes with glow-in-the-dark, transparent and temperature-changing inks.

The Polyes Q1 uses photosensitive polymers that harden when exposed to UV light emitted by the pen's tip. This makes it safer to use as well as more energy-efficient.

The pen can be set to automatically stop working when pointing upwards, a clever option that prevents kids from shining the UV light into their eyes. The pen even has an optional feature that circumvents the use of UV light, with customers given the option to buy a blue right resin polymer that requires blue light to harden rather than high-energy UV light.

The Polyes Q1 pen is set to be the subject of a Kickstarter campaign.
