Toilets at 2012 Olympics to Face Away from Mecca

Toilets at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be built facing away from Mecca so that Muslims do not have to face their holy city when sitting on the loo.

The Olympic Delivery Authority, the team behind the plans, hope that these measures will avoid the lavatory causing a religious stink.

Islamic religion tells Muslims not to face the direction of prayer--the Kiblah--while they are going to the toilet.

A spokesman for the ODA has confirmed that a 'percentage of general toilets would not face Mecca' and that they were taking measures to create an ideal venue for people of all cultures and faiths.

In addition, special washing facilities linked to prayer rooms are also being planned for London's Olympic Park.
