Polaboy is a not only a picture, not just a light, but both… or maybe even eerier, a window into the future. This art frame shows digital images that at night double up as a light. You can submit your own pictures to the company and they will have a specially made picture light or Polaboy sent to you.
For two years product designer and master craftsman Jirko Bannas, creative director and photobook publisher Oliver Seltmann worked intensively on the idea of the light picture. Obviously their main idea came from the unique shape of a vintage polaroid, but what may be most fascinating is that this is not only art, but a functional part of your home that is totally portable.
This is an extremely clever take on revamping vintage styles. Taking a sign of vintage chic, the polaroid, and turning it into something completely new. The implication here is that there is clearly room for other thought to be dead symbols to be reborn in a new light.
