OpenAI, the artificial intelligence startup founded by Elon Musk recently unveils its new POINT-E picture-forming technology that works similarly to the DALL-E generator. It is able to produce 3D point clouds only from text prompts. Alex Nichol, who is a part of the OpenAI Research team talks about the new development in a published piece about a 3D generation from Complex Prompts.
To explain how the technology works, he states that "To produce a 3D object from a text prompt, we first sample an image using the text-to-image model, and then sample a 3D object conditioned on the sampled image. Both of these steps can be performed in a number of seconds, and do not require expensive optimization procedures."
