Nightshop's Ward van Gemert and Adriaan van der Ploeg have been experimenting with piping foam to create a collection of contemporary and colorful carpets. These designs are from their 'Showdown' series of carpets made with unusual materials.
The usual carpet or rug is woven, rufted or sewn, whereas these modern masterpieces are made by piping urethane foam through large syringes. Mirroring the look of Tejo Remy's groovy Homeshaker rug, Nightshop's line of colorful carpets squish together vibrant materials to form pieces that have a 1970s appeal to them. To create these pieces, the design duo sketched out a pattern then traced the lines with piping foam.
As the material expands, it fuses together to create a solid and remarkable design. Nightstop created herringbone patterns, lattices and more using this avant-garde technique.
