The newly unveiled Lowe's Pickup Lockers are a direct response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and consumer safety concerns. The contactless pickup lockers are designed to deliver same-day orders faster than before and are set to start rolling out across retail locations by Thanksgiving of this year and at all locations by March of 2021.
Though social distancing measures are loosening in certain regions, the fear of a second COVID-19 wave has lead many retailers -- especially those specializing in home renovation and gardening products -- to rethink the way they handle online orders.
"With more than 60 percent of online orders picked up in our stores, this gives our customers one more option and the added convenience and flexibility to control how and when they get that order," said Joe McFarland, Lowe's Executive VP of stores.
