Commercial drones are more popular than ever, but the Phaser is a weapon for deactivating drones of a far more dubious nature. The Phaser is a recently declassified US Army weapon that uses microwaves to knock out military unmanned aerial vehicles en masse.
The Phaser comprises a microwave-emitting dish that is powered by a massive diesel engine in a housing that looks similar to a shipping container. It coordinates with external radar systems to locate where drones are flying, then aims its dish in that direction and fires a wide swath of electronics-frying microwaves. The breadth of the microwave blast is such that the Phaser can knock out multiple UAVs in one burst.
Because microwaves interrupt any electronics (not just drones,) the Phaser can be used in many different operations on all sorts of equipment.
