Swiss design studio Giona Bierens de Haan Architectures brings a newly refreshed touch to the beautiful Perfect Day House in a mountain village nestled in Switzerland. The mountain chalet is found in Zinal and the space is defined by pale wooden finishes along the interior. It is completely rearranged around a central communal living space and the roof is replaced entirely as well. There are new openings that retain the outdoor space and exterior design to keep the original facade.
The studio shares with Dezeen, "The original chalet dates back to the 60s and was renovated twenty years later in the 80s. The construction was made of squared logs, a typical Swiss mountain construction in which massive wooden elements are embedded in the corners of the building to ensure stability, but the extension built in the 80s imitated this style without respecting the construction technique. The chalet was therefore a construction that imitated an old traditional chalet without actually being one. It was a bit of a patchwork of different periods and construction techniques."
