Bicycle-Powered Creameries

'Peddler's Creamery' Puts Pedal to the Metal to Make Ice Cream

Peddler's Creamery is an ice cream shop with a unique concept and a fairly telling name. The Los Angeles shop creates its sweet treats by having employees ride stationary bicycles in-store to churn batches of ice cream.

Although having to manually churn ice cream until it is frozen seems like an archaic way of doing things, it only takes about 15 minutes to completely freeze the ice cream and the shop is having no trouble meeting the demands.

The activity in itself is also an attraction, where customers can watch their ice cream being made, or get a workout of their own by hopping on a bike and contributing to the production of ice cream in-store.

The unique shop has received LEED certification for its green design and innovative use of interactive kinetic sculptures.
