London-based fashion label Ahluwalia has teamed up with legendary British designer Paul Smith to launch a new collaboration and mentorship program. The project builds on Priya Ahluwalia and Smith's ongoing relationship while introducing an all-new clothing collection.
The collection consists of 11 pieces inspired by both Ahluwalia’s archive of photographs in India and Nigeria and Smith's penchant for vintage sport and cycling paraphernalia. In addition, some of the garments borrow elements from the artworks of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka as well as those of the interdisciplinary artist Ernesto Cánovas.
"I had the pleasure of being introduced to Priya through a mutual friend, and our shared approach to design was obvious from our first meeting. Her maverick spirit reminded me of myself when I was just starting out. While our styles may appear different at first glance, we’re coming at it from the same place: a real conviction that clothes should be a source of joy," said Smith in reference to launching the new project.
