At first glance, the original form of these patterned chocolate shavings looks like a big decadent cake. In reality, it is a solid cylindrical block of chocolate that has been carefully layered to reveal different geometric patterns as it is shaved down. To take it a step further, each shape revealed throughout the process of shaving has a different flavor.
Created by Dutch furniture designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld in collaboration with Studio Wieki Somers and chocolatier Rafael Mutter, the patterned chocolate shavings are as artistically delicious as it gets. The accompanying time lapse video gives people context as to how big Chocolate Mill really is. Not to mention that it is mesmerizing to see the blade at work.
