Elevated Light-Filled Churches

The Parish Church in Bracana is Flooded with Natural Light

Light and religious architecture have been deeply intertwined for almost as long as the latter has been in existence, and though the parish church in Bracana is an exemplary modern structure, it maintains this historic relationship. The new church building, which was designed by local firm Fresneda & Zamora Arquitectura, is flooded with natural light that pours in from all sides in the sunny township, with the most dramatic light coming in from a cruciform window along the back wall.

What's interesting about the parish church in Bracana is that it doesn't actually feature an abundance of windows, so it still feels authoritative and strong. The building benefits from sitting at the top of a hill, so it has virtually nothing around it impeding access to natural sunlight, and it is further designed with white, reflective surfaces to spread the light that makes it in.
