We've seen a few celebrities start their own blogs and social networking sites, and now Steven Spielberg introduces the oddest of the bunch.
The uber famous movie producer has plans to launch a social networking site devoted to extraterrestrials and the paranormal. Hopefully the intention behind it is to help raise hype for new films, but who knows.
"The focus will be on users who've had or who are interested in sharing paranormal and extraterrestrial experiences. The new social network may also have original video content investigating alleged ghost and UFO stories," according to TechCrunch. Creepy!
If his movies are any clue into his mind, Spielberg has always shown a fascination with the paranormal. Hs freakier movies date back to 1977 with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Then there was Poltergeist and ET in 1982. Following that were lighter movies like Caper in 1995 and Men in Black in 1997. Other movies following those include The Haunting and War of the Worlds.
Apparently he's had some of his own indescribably eerie encounters with ghosts in a hotel and other hauntings that go back to childhood, so perhaps this is a way to connect with others who understand him. On the other hand, it could be a marketing gimmick to raise awareness for Interstellar which is due to come out in 2009.
