Freakily Fast Robots

The Multi-Legged Outrunner Robot Can Sprint at Up to 20 Miles Per Hour

The OutRunner is a high-speed robot that can spring faster than most humans. The robot is fitted with vertically-mounted spinning turrets which prompt its legs -- anywhere between six and 12 of them -- to move forward and meet the ground. It is being developed by Robotics Unlimited, who are running a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of the robots.

Robotics Unlimited plans to release two different versions of the OutRunner robot. The basic six-legged OutRunner Core model will offer a top speed of 10 mph and a run-time of one hour on a full battery.

The more advanced OutRunner Performance can be equipped with anywhere between six and 12 legs, and will have a top speed of 20 mph. It will feature its own 720p video camera capable of transmitting real-time footage via WiFi. The OutRunner Performance will be controllable via either a remote control or a smartphone app.
