Artist and designer Brian McCutcheon created this stunning outdoor library as part of 'The Public Collection.' This project is a public art and literacy initiative that aims to encourage literacy through creative, accessible and thoughtfully designed libraries.
Brian McCutcheon accepted the challenge and created a pillar-themed outdoor library. The pillars were painted bright green and resemble a line of connected lampposts. Each pillar contains a 360-degree shelving unit that is filled with books. The structure is made of steel, aluminum, polycarbonate, fiberglass composite and bright green paint.
Titled 'Monument,' this glorious piece of literary architecture was inspired by a quote from Mark Twain. The quote reads, "A public library is the most enduring of memorials, the trustiest monument for the preservation of an event or a name or an affection." It is currently sitting in Monument Cirle in Indianapolis.
