3D-printing has ushered in a slew of opportunities in various industries across the world and now the publishing sector could benefit from it if the 'On Such A Full Sea' book has anything to say about it. Written by Korean American novelist Chang-Rae Lee, it sports a limited edition sculptural book cover that immediately turns the new book into a collector's item.
Designed by Helen Yentus, the art director of Riverhead Books, the 'On Such A Full Sea' book is the first of its kind. Initially taking 30 hours to create, each cover is now made in 15, which is still pretty labor intensive. But this fact makes the $150 price tag more digestible.
According to the author, the 'On Such a Full Sea' cover "re-introduces the idea of the book as an art object."
