The Offset Stool by Giorgio Biscaro Redefines the Use of Plywood

Giorgio Biscaro is presenting his new design, the Offset stool, at Milan Design Week. Biscaro is interested in working with plywood, which--while it doesn't sound very interesting--is a common and cheap material. Finding new ways to use it could open doors to cheaper and more interesting designs.

The Offset stool uses bent plywood to create a three-petaled seat. The Offset stool comes in three spring-appropriate colors including yellow, green and white.

Implications - Giorgio Biscaro takes a cheap commodity and alters it to create something profitable and beautiful. With the economic recession still looming in many consumers' minds, companies must offer products that are appealing to individuals, but never overly opulent. Using cheaper materials is one way to lower production costs and sell a product at a reasonable price.
