Powerhouse Company transformed an outdated 1980s office foyer into a luxurious space resembling a hotel lobby.
The Rotterdam office was updated with a restaurant and bar, as well as a dynamic spiraling staircase fashioned from wood and marble. The designers didn't want the space to become merely transitional, with people passing through, but not really interacting with one another. Instead, the architects hoped their design would "encourage chance encounters." Though they stuck to the original layout, the architects introduced high-end materials that would offer a luxurious hotel experience.
The redesign is part of the 'Office as a Hotel' project, a part of Dutch developer Vastgoed Vermogensbeheer's larger vision, which involves renovating all floors of the Willemswerf Office Building.
