Slatted Wooden Art Museums

The Odunpazari Modern Art Museum Will Be Covered in Timber Logs

Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma & Associates has recently unveiled its plans for the Odunpazari Modern Art Museum in Turkey, and the design references the history of the building's site. The museum will consist of several stacked volumes that will be clad in slatted timber struts, like squared versions of the Lincoln Logs that young children play with.

The decision to use a primarily wooden design for the Odunpazari Modern Art Museum is a not-so-subtle reference to the history of the area. The site on which the new museum will be built was once a wood market, and indeed many of the surrounding Ottoman Empire era buildings are also built out of wood (albeit with more subtle designs.)

The museum's artwork will primarily be contemporary pieces from Turkish artists.
