Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects designed the Obumex Outside building in Staden, Belgium.
The main design objective for this project was to create a space that effectively blurred the distinction between indoors and outdoors. The architects opted for a material palette of concrete and glass. The concrete is used to divide the space, while the glass encourages openness and natural light. The building is flanked by a terrace and swimming pool, both of which add to the fluidity and openness of the layout.
The space is primarily used as an exhibition space for furniture from brands like Christian Liaigre, Andreu World, Unopiu and Promemoria. The modern homeware looks right at home inside of this classical, yet contemporary, space.
