Nutcracker by Jennifer Rubell Uses Fierce Legs to Crack a Shell

Nutcracker by Jennifer Rubell is a collection of 18 female mannequins that have been reconfigured and turned into life-size nutcrackers.

The naked female mannequins are planking on theirs sides and held up by a pedestal while their legs are slightly spread open. New York-based artist Rubell designed the models with a hole in the inner right thigh that contains the nut. When the left leg is pulled down to meet the right, the inner thighs close in together to crack the nut. This interactive art piece is meant for viewers to take part in the activity.

These sculptures embody two forms in which Rubell attempts to portray. One is the sexually idealized female body while the other is the powerful dragon lady that can bust a nut as easy as squeezing her thighs together.
