The Nuru Project sells stunning prints by talented photojournalists in order to support important non-profits and compelling storytellers internationally. Founded in 2008 by five friends hoping to leverage photography for social good, Nuru Project is named after the Swahili word for "light," translating elegantly into "light project."
When a print is purchased, 50% of the proceeds go to a non-profit, while 25% goes to the photojournalist and 25% goes back into funding for Nuru Project. Currently, Nuru supports seven non-profits: Partners in Health, Acumen Fund, Architecture for Humanity, Malaria No More, Millennium Promise, Pencils of Promise and Kiva.
With a stunning selection of prints that can be perused by issue, country or photographer, Nuru also empowers their customers to select one of the seven non-profits to benefit upon checkout.
