Naked Public Fountain Parades

The Nude Rendition of Wagner's 'The Ring' Opens an Opera Festival

A bold nude rendition of Wagner's 'The Ring,' an iconic opera masterpiece, took place in the middle of a very public square to kick off Germany's opera season.

The performance was choreographed and photographed by Spencer Tunick, who gathered 1,700 people to participate in the event. The mob was painted in angry red or shimmering gold to cover their bare bodies. They acted out poignant scenes from 'The Ring,' focusing the spectacle around the square's large water fountain. The volunteers can be seen forming a ring around it before completing various formations that required them to do everything from lie down on the ground to clamber over the historic statues.

This formation-filled performance was a fusion of a contemporary flash mob with inklings of interpretive dance.
