Folkloric Book Sculptures

Su Blackwell Transforms Novel Pages into 3D Fairytale Locations

Su Blackwell is a creative artist that transforms novel pages into detailed 3D pop-up sculptures of folklore and fairytale locations. The pages are rendered into beautiful miniature settings written about in the stories that Blackwell is able to bring to live through meticulous folding and cutting of the pages.

Each of Blackwell's storybook constructions are three dimensional, bringing to life the fantastical worlds described in detail in the stories. The book pages are cut, rolled, shaped and crafted into dioramas that expressively showcase the settings of the stories such as enchanted forests, cozy villages, pirate ships, islands with buried treasure and even tree houses. The structures are built on top of the book pages and then presented inside a wooden box to be put on display. Often times Blackwell also adds small lights to illuminate certain parts of the sculptures.
