Global IT company NTT Data has designed a new nanotech shirt titled 'Hitoe'. The shirt will be worn by open-wheeled IndyCar racer Tony Kanaan this race season. The nanotech shirt is capable of measuring and relaying data on things like breathing and muscle tension while Kanaan is racing. His team can watch a real-time data field that shows when his heart rate and stress levels spike or if he is holding his breath around a turn.
No one has raced with wearable sensors before, but this new technology could help Kanaan with training to be better physically prepared for races. The high-tech shirt uses nano-fibers woven together to make it conductive so that the wearer doesn't need to be hooked up to any machinery to record and track all the data. The shirt, which can last for more than 100 washes, looks similar to the average moisture-wicking workout shirts.
