The Naica Lamp is inspired by the traditional carbide lanterns used by coal miners. Of course, it has essentially been modernized beyond recognition. In place of metal and acetylene gas, the Naica Lamp is made out of ceramic and LEDs. Not to mention that the beacon-like silhouette has been forgone for a cavernous design that emits a softer glow perfect for living rooms rather than subterranean hollows.
Designed by London- and Verona-based Daniel Debiasi and Federico Sandri of Something in collaboration with Ligne Roset, the Naica Lamp is easily portable with a looped handle on its top. Sleek and simple, it takes on a rectangular shape that is available in either plain white or with a moodier red interior. Debiasi reveals, "We wanted to recreate a friendly atmosphere."
