Dystopian 3D-Printed Chairs

Nagami's Debut Furniture Takes Design Cues from Aldous Huxley

Spanish design label Nagami unveiled its very first collection comprised of four 3D-printed chairs. The name of the new collection is 'Brave New World,' and it is inspired by a dystopian novel from the 30s by Aldous Huxley. The Brave New World collection is made up three contributors: Zaha Hadid Architects, British designer Ross Lovegrove and London-based architect and designer Daniel Widrig. The capsule includes two chairs, the Bow and Rise by Zaha Hadid Architects, a stool entitled Robotica TM by Ross Lovegrove and the Peeler chair by Daniel Widrig.

The Bow and Rise touches on the natural growth process that happens in marine biology underwater, specifically the formation of coral. The chairs are constructed from a biodegradable material, polylactic acid plastic. The stool is influenced by the programming of nature in the field of robotics, constructed in a rotational system. The Peeler chair is made to look like something is being peeled off an invisible joint on a body.
